exploreASEAN – Innovate Beyond Borders
exploreASEAN is one of the International Student Projects of the FHNW School of Business. The FHNW School of Business launched exploreASEAN in 2015, and it is now in its 11th edition.
Mission
exploreASEAN offers young talents a unique opportunity to gain real-world insights in various aspects of international business in the ASEAN region with the focus on sustainable growth, collaboration and technology. At the same time, it encourages them to discover new countries, companies and a perspective into cultural differences between countries.
The project team organises a Seminar in Switzerland with company visits and guest speakers for the topics the team chose, followed by a Seminar Abroad in ASEAN countries that the team selected, where we will explore different companies and governmental institutions. These experiences enable students and partners to gain access to ASEAN markets, build meaningful cross-cultural connections, and expand their professional networks in one of the fastest growing regions in the world.
This Year’s Themes and Destinations
The 11th edition of exploreASEAN focuses on smart innovation and cross-border collaboration in Southeast Asia. Under the banner SmartASEAN: Innovate Beyond Borders, we examine how the region is shaping the future through sustainable growth, collaboration, and technology. This year, the delegation will visit Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia to explore how our focus areas — HealthTech, green innovation, smart cities and urban development, entrepreneurship, and cross-border collaboration —shape the international business environment.
What students gain from joining
exploreASEAN offers a unique opportunity to connect academic learning with real-world international experience in selected ASEAN countries. Our mission is to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
As a delegate, you earn 5 ECTS credits through an individual paper and a group project. The project concludes in early May, allowing you to focus on other essential courses in your final semester. Participation also helps you stand out among FHNW peers and can enhance your chances of securing an exciting role in a global company.
You will experience the ASEAN region at the intersection of sustainability and business growth. Through company visits and guest speakers from Swiss and international organisations, you gain first-hand insights into how businesses operate across Southeast Asia. By engaging directly with these organisations and their leaders, you will discover innovations and build connections that can lead to future collaborations and career opportunities.
Beyond business, exploreASEAN is a cultural immersion. Each country offers distinct customs and business practices. You will visit modern innovation hubs and cultural landmarks, deepening your understanding of ASEAN societies and their growing economies.
Throughout the journey, you will collaborate closely with fellow FHNW students and engage directly with the international business environment.
Motivated final year Bachelor students from the FHNW can apply.
Deadline: 20.10.2025.
Why partner with exploreASEAN?

Through collaboration with the exploreASEAN project, you will have the opportunity to engage with emerging talent, exchange knowledge, and enhance your organisation’s presence in the growing ASEAN region.
We will also promote partners on our various communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and targeted promotions to FHNW students, positioning your brand as a key supporter of technology, growth, and collaboration, as well as an international company.
